Announcement of the formation of the “Workers’ Solidarity Committee”  against privatization, violation of workers’ rights, and corruption in workers’ welfare institutions.

In a meeting organized by the National Trade Union Federation Pakistan (NTUF) under the auspices of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), serious concern was expressed over the ongoing attacks on  workers’ rights and policy of privatization.

The meeting demanded an investigation and impartial audit of the widespread corruption in workers’ welfare institutions, where billions of rupees allocated for workers’ welfare were being embezzled.

It was also stated that without a complete purge of the Labour Department and Ministry, the protection of workers’ rights was impossible, as the Labour Department had become a hub of corruption. The meeting announced the formation of the Workers’ Solidarity Committee to protect workers’ rights.

The plan of action for workers will be announced at an important press conference on Tuesday, August 12, at the Karachi Press Club.
